‘In this truly remarkable collection of sixty-one poems, award-winning poet David Costello takes us on a captivating and profoundly heartfelt journey, exploring from ‘Heft’ to ‘Walking in Wales’ not only our natural and man-made worlds but also our relationship to them. What exists within us and our equally complex human relationships. How our ‘sell-by’ dates with the inevitability of death are tempered by memory and love. Never mind the ‘Book of Common Prayer,’ as in Costello’s poem ‘Freefalling’ this collection should be gifted to everyone
...still falling through the fault lines
and their fontanelles
spinning like a penny
between heads and tails.’Sally Spedding—
‘David Costello’s poetry is especially adept at evoking the passing of time. Throughout this collection, he portrays the ambiguities and ambivalences of relationships between the individual and the collective, the human and the natural, the historical and the present, moving his readers in every poem.’Matthew Stewart—
